    About Us

    Red Kite Forest School

Red Kite Forest School, founded by Helen Murray in 2019, focuses on children's nature education for kids aged 3 and up. As a qualified Level 3 Forest School Practitioner and Level 3 Childcare Practitioner with over a decade of teaching experience, Helen emphasizes the importance of outdoor learning. She believes that engaging with nature provides a holistic learning environment where children can both learn and unwind.

    Fun Outdoor Learning

Red Kite Forest School provides children with unique opportunities for children's nature education that encourages them to engage with the natural world. The Forest School initiative, which originated in Scandinavia in the 1950s, highlights the significance of children's contact with nature and emphasizes the importance of outdoor learning. It supports the idea that children should have the freedom to play, explore, learn, and develop outside the traditional classroom setting.

Engaging with nature fosters children's confidence, courage, and spontaneity, offering magnificent opportunities for holistic learning and deep, memorable experiences. Forest School teaches children about risk-taking in a controlled environment, allowing them to flourish and enhance both their skills and self-belief.

In modern society, many children have limited access to the outdoors, and as a result, vital experiences gained from being in nature are slowly diminishing.

    Benefits of Forest School

The Forest School ethos promotes holistic learning, fostering the holistic development of self-esteem, creativity, confidence, communication, and independence among children. Through children's nature education, they gain an increased knowledge and understanding of the natural world while experiencing opportunities to develop their gross and fine motor skills. The skills and development nurtured at Forest School seamlessly transfer to all other environments, supporting the unique child. During each outdoor learning session, children engage and share ideas in nature's classroom, where language and communication flourish. Sometimes, the simplest things in nature can bring the greatest joy!

    Working with Schools

    Primary School availability

I have experience working in partnership with both Nursery and Primary schools to offer regular sessions focused on children's nature education, either on-site or off-site. I am also happy to provide one-off taster sessions or day experiences that promote holistic learning through outdoor learning and Forest school principles.

Please get in touch to discuss your individual settings requirements for children's nature education, particularly in the context of Forest school, holistic learning, and outdoor learning.
